Welcome to the Sanctuary.
If you are a leader in a nonprofit, a church, or a mission-driven organization, you are likely "elbow deep" in the daily work of your calling. Whether it’s ministry, donor relations, or operational settings and protocols, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture.
That’s why you’re here. My name is Tadd Mencer. I’ve spent over 20 years in tech and nearly a decade in cybersecurity. My goal is to help you build a Digital Sanctuary around the resources you’ve been gifted with.
Because let’s face it: even if you worked your fingers to the bone to build your organization, your resources—your finances, your time, your mission, and your donors—are a gift.
Let’s keep them safe.
Why "Good Intentions" Aren't a Security Plan
In the nonprofit world, there’s a dangerous assumption: Because we are people-centric, we don’t need to function like a business.
We tell ourselves that being "mission-focused" means we can be "protocol-light." But after two decades in the trenches, I’ve seen that this is a fundamental flaw. If you lead a Christian organization, I’d argue that failing to use sound business strategy isn't just risky—it’s biblically unsound. We are called to be "wise as serpents" for a reason.
1. The "Quick Fix" vs. Stewardship
One of the biggest symptoms of a non-business mindset is the "SaaS Pile-up." A department adds a new app because it’s "easier" for them, but they don't realize the overhead it creates.
Security Pipelines: Every new software is a new door left unlocked.
Employee Burnout: Without a plan for which systems to use, staff spend half their day searching for data.
Ghost Systems: "Quick fixes" are often forgotten, leaving sensitive data unmonitored for months.
2. Data over Feelings
Strategy forces you to look at data, not just "how we feel." A botnet doesn't care that you're a small church or a local charity. Strategic planning protects you from making emotional choices that leave your donors exposed.
3. Caring for your People
Proper business structure provides long-term stability for your employees. When a ministry suffers a data breach because they didn't have a recovery plan, the staff and the mission pay the price.
Your Next Steps
This site isn't just a blog; it’s a roadmap. Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing deep dives into:
Identity Security: Moving beyond passwords to true MFA and Conditional Access.
The Backup Myth: Why "Sync" isn't a backup and how to actually protect your files.
The Human Firewall: Training your team without being the "Security Grinch."
Ready to move from "Reactive" to "Strategic"? I'm currently building the 30-Day Fortification Playbook—a step-by-step guide for ministry leaders who want to stop guessing and start securing.
